The National Trust is delighted to welcome artist Ben Taffinder with a return show to Trelissick Gallery following his very successful exhibition last year.
Growing up on the family farm in the Roseland, Ben naturally absorbed the rhythms and flow of the land and seascapes that surrounded him. Following his artistic education at Falmouth College of Art, his passion for his home landscape has become the core of his work as an artist.
Many painters of Cornwall describe a coastal world split between sea and sky but move inland and natural patterns are overlaid by more human influences; fields and woodland, buildings and roads. This landscape and its compositional influences play a defining role in Ben’s painting. His work explores a landscape where sea and land enmesh. Its complexity fascinates Ben. How things that are so different in nature come together is key to understanding his work.
For Ben painting is a disciplined process. Produced in his Roseland studio these works are characterised with thickly applied paint placed with considered care yet are also flamboyant and intense. Still a young artist, Ben Taffinder is emerging as an impressive talent able to share his love of and insight into a remarkable landscape with enviable eloquence.
